What information will I need?
Legal name
Address
Phone number
Email address
Date of birth
Social Security number
Envelope may ask for additional information or an identity document, such as a driver's license, when it is necessary to verify your identity.
Why does Envelope need my Social Security number?
As required by law, financial institutions in the United States must verify each customer's identity. Envelope requests your Social Security number as part of that process and uses encryption, identity-verification controls, and system monitoring to protect personal information. Learn more about the applicable customer-identification requirements from The US's Government's website.
Who can apply?
Any U.S. resident who is at least 18 years old and has a Social Security number can apply for an Envelope account.
What if my application is denied?
An application may be declined when it does not pass an initial identity or eligibility check. Contact Envelope Support from the app if you have questions. In some cases, support can request additional documentation to continue the review.
